UMD technology... dead

The thing is that PSP also supports a memory stick, and at this point the memory sticks have more capacity than those little shitty CDs. So, as the memory stick is a technology that is not stopping will keep getting bigger and bigger, so what's the point of keeping those CDs? What about releasing your game in a memory stick? Then we will end up with a game portable which doesn't use 20% of itself (UMD reader). Which makes me think that Sony would probably redesign it and do it lighter... I guess.
Poor thing.. it only had 2 years of life :) Not too many technologies had such a short life.
4 commentsWow, that was quite shocking and I'm surprised I didn't realised before. Just found this article where you can see how the UMD technology (you know, those CDs wrapped in a white plastic) that PSP uses.

You should end up your sentences... it was hard to read the post (although the point is clear). ie (removing the part in parenthesis):
- "Just found this article where you can see how the UMD technology that PSP uses."
- "Just found this article where you can see how the UMD technology (you know, those CDs wrapped in a white plastic) that PSP uses."
- "Then we will end up with a game portable which doesn't use 20% of itself."
The thing with UMD is that it makes it harder to copy since it's a propietary format for which no cheap and domestic copiers exist.
Flash drives are a completely different thing though, and although there are hacked firmwares for the PSP to support dumped games, that's a hack which will void your warranty (and Sony is a business) :-)
