Bye bye Windows,...welcome Ubuntu!

Yeah! As I said before I was about to get rid of any illegal copy of Windows from here. If you don't need any special Windows program and you're running an illegal copy of Windows XP I recommend you to use a 2006 OS (not a 2001) such as Ubuntu 6.06. In that way, I guess Windows XP will move from 90% to 50% of expansion. Hehehe...
So, I spent almost the whole weekend installing Ubuntu and getting used to it. Some bits were a bit hard to configure (Apache+PHP+MySQL as we always have an internal webserver for testing reasons), but I was able to do it. Also, I lost a bit of time installing xGL+Compiz... Looks like it's not ready yet as it crashed after using it for a while. However, it's awesome!! :O
Some things I really liked were...
Installing the OS from the OS (liveCD)...
and being able to browse internet, chat or play a game meanwhile, oh! and it doesn't take 45min like Windows Vista does.
Auto-update system
it checks if there is any new package and installs it.
Installing new apps/services without opening firefox
there is a apps/services repositories searcher/browser were you can select what do you want to install and the tool will also install the additional services needed. So I installed Blender & inkscape, ... (both of them) with just 1 click. Can you imagine something like that in Windows XP? I don't.
Great help
In case I needed to learn any command line syntax, ubuntu guide was always there. (And sole, of course ;))
Visual beauty
In the other hand, one of the main worst points of Linux (ugliness) has been finally fixed. The login screen / system loading / skin / icons / screensavers are MUCH better than Windows XP (and you don't have to crack the system in order to add new skins if you wish). Click on the snapshot to see how everything looks like.
Good stuff already installed
OpenOffice, firefox, gimp, and programs like that were already installed.. (Again, imagine how long it will take to install Windows XP and Office X'D) However, I needed to install VLCplayer, MySQLAdmin and aMule.
So, yeah... after doing the migration I got a great feeling, it's like really using a clean and stable 2006 OS, instead a super-mega-patched 2001 one.

Ubuntu rocks! I've been Windows free since November 2005 and it completely rocks. You should mention UbuntuForums also.

YES!
Uhm, the last Ubuntu I tested was version 5 iirc, and it was nice, but I was happy with my Debian. Of course Windows sucks for the daily use, but I wonder how are you going to do your Flash stuff now :)
Regarding its Visual Beauty, you can suft into gnome-look.org for themes, icons, etc. Ah, dont forget to try the best audio app ever: Amarok. :D

I didn't put that on my laptop (where I work), there is quite a lot of programs and stuff that makes me stay with Windows right now :(

i'm on ubuntu 6.06 too - its great! have you tried out StreamTuner & streamripper yet? i've blogged about it here:
Ubuntu-Dapper---Ripping-audio-streams-to-mp3
you can leave your PC on overnight ripping tunes from high quality shoutcast internet streams. very cool.
